AUSTRALIA: Foster's Lager: Light yellow, often slightly cloudy when served iced, it has a fresh light malt aroma.

AUSTRIA: Gösser Beer: This beer's roots go back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire from the area known as Styria. It is pale and cloudy and has a malt aroma.

BELGIUM: Orval Abbey's Biere Des Trappistes: This top-fermented beer with ancient origins has a strong herbal flavour, and is very difficult to find in the U.S.

BRAZIL: Brahma Beer: From one of South Americas largest breweries, it is medium bodied and slightly sweet.

CANADA: Molson Golden Ale: Molson, founded in Montreal in 1786, is the oldest brewery in continuous existence in North America. Pale and light, it is sweeter than Molson Export.

Moosehead Pale Ale: A popular maritime pale ale with a malty yeasty nose.

Carling O'Keefe: One of the three Canadian giants, it has a golden colour, clean faint malty aroma, and a pleasant after taste.

Labatt's 50: The largest selling ale in Canada. It is pale with good hop balance.

CHINA: Tsingtao: A dry pilsner-style beer brewed from supposedly "sweet" spring water issuing from granite mountains in the province of Shantung.

CZECH REPUBLIC: Pilsner Urquell: Deep yellow colour, heavy body and strong aroma, its marvelous malt-hop flavour has made it a world classic.

DENMARK: Carlsberg: Brewed in Denmark, Carlsberg is light and dry with a deep golden colour.

Tuborg Gold: This Danish-style beer has a medium gold colour and faintly sweet with a pleasant finish.

ENGLAND: Bass Pale Ale: Pleasant malty aroma, medium body, good malty flavour. A beautiful ale, its red triangle symbol is the oldest registered trademark in the world. It supposedly stands for a divinity of pyramid builders called Tammuz, or Bassaneus, the Fortifier, who was the son of the goddess Ops.

J.P. Courage: Cloudy yellow colour, one of the world's distinctive beers.

Mackson Stout: Extremely dark brown colour, almost opaque, rich malty aroma, heavy body. An excellent stout and the preference of many. If you like stout, you must try this one.

FINLAND: Koff: Finnish beers characteristically firm, clean and fairly dry. Koff was founded by a Russian in 1819 when Finland was part of the Russian Empire.

FRANCE: Kronenburg: This medium gold coloured light beer from Strasbourg dates back to 1664.

Fischer: Malty grainy aroma with a metallic finish.

Lutece Parisian Beer: Brewed from champagne and gatinais malts, and hops from Burgundy and Alsace, this Parisian beer possesses a lot of finesse. It is a must! Serves two.

GERMANY: Beck's Beer: Pale gold colour, mild malty nose and finely balanced beer from Bremen. It enjoys the unique distinction of being the largest selling beer in Germany and is one of the world's great beers.

Beck's Dark Beer: Medium dark colour, hoppy aroma with a big flavour and slightly bitter aftertaste.

Dinkelacker: A complex beer with a malty hop aroma and plenty of zest.

Kulmbacher Schweizerhof Bräu: Famous for the quality of its export beers, this Bavarian beer founded in 1349 has a high alcohol content. Its unusual snap-top bottles contain 16oz.

St. Pauli Girl: Pale colour, faint malty aroma, this popular beer is produced by Beck's.

HOLLAND: Heineken: Medium gold colour, smooth bouquet of hops and malt. It is well balanced with a slightly dry finish.

Brand Bier: The oldest brewing company in the Netherlands, dating back to 1340. Another truly distinctive beer.

Grolsch: Fresh unpasteurised beer with a tart aroma.

IRELAND: Guiness Stout: As one of the world's largest brewers, Guiness is unique in devoting itself exclusively to dry stouts. Contrary to some impressions, stout is a distinct and major beer style, to the world of beer what amontillado sherry is to wine lovers. Guiness stout is a world classic.

Harp: Deep gold colour. Pungent hop aroma. Definitely for those who prefer a well-hopped beer.

ITALY: Peroni: One of the three excellent Italian beers exported to America, it is light, brown, has great zest and is strong flavoured.

JAPAN: Kirin: Brewed from Japanese barley, rice, cornstarch and corn grits, this pasteurised beer dominates the Japanese brewing scene. It has a good smokey malt flavour and is very refreshing.

MEXICO: Dos Equis: Brown coloured, a big malty flavour like molasses, with a finehop finish.

NORWAY: Hansa: This Bergen beer has a pale cloudy appearance, beautiful malty hop aroma with excellent hop balance. A luscious full-flavoured brew; there is no other brew in the United States quite like it.

PHILIPPINES: San Miguel: This brewery was founded in 1890 as the first brewery in Southeast Asia. It has become one of the most famous names across the Pacific. In fact rumour has it that General MacArthur gave bombing missions over Manila during World War II strict instructions not hit the brewery. A cloudy pale yellow, strongly hopped brew; fresh tasting. One of the world's best beers.

SCOTLAND: Lorimer's Scotch Ale: With its coal fired copper and open-square fermenters, this delightful brewery in Edinburgh produces an excellent strong ale, with a big malty flavour.

POLAND: Krakus Beer: Tracing its roots back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, this beer has a faintly sweet malt nose and is considered the best of the Polish imports.

SWITZERLAND: Lowenbrau: Swiss beers are made according to the standards in Germany; that is, made only with water, malt, hops and yeast. No additives are permitted. This Swiss Lowenbrau from Zurich has a very dark tawny brown colour, an intense malty aroma and strong malty flavour.

UNITED STATES: Anchor Steam: This is the last of the steam beers that flourished up and down the West Coast in the late 1800's. Almost copper coloured, malty-yeast and slightly fruity flavour. It is considered by some as one of America's finest beers, it is definitely in a class of its own.

Budweiser: This beer was introduced by Anheuser-Busch in 1876 and has remained "The King of Beers" , due primarily to the Busch family's uncompromising quality standards. It has a unique delicate fruitiness. The use of rice instead of corn as an adjunct contributes to its snappy taste, clarity and brilliance.

Michelob: Michelob has a characteristically smooth malty palate, and combined with Budweiser, commands about 20% of the American market.

Miller High Life: Ranking second to Anheuser-Busch in sales, Miller owes much of its popularity to this pale coloured, malty and slightly hopped beer.

Schlitz: Schlitz, "The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous", has a very pleasing taste, pale colour and light flavour.

Schmidt's: "Beer As Beer Should Be" A light coloured fragrant beer with medium body.

Genesee Cream Ale: This popular east coast ale has a full malty aroma with a slight hop background, and good malt-hop balance.

Rolling Rock: Somewhat of a cult brand, Rolling Rock is better known than its brewer, Latrobe, from Pennsylvania, largely because it is that company's single product. It is a well-made beer with a pronounced hop character and a body that is malty but lightened by the use of rice as an adjunct.
